Kiss Goodbye to MS for the MS Society Charity Fund Raising Ball at The Nottinghamshire Golf Club, Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire - 2019
Lizzie is an exciting, passionate and very enthusiastic MS Society fund raiser. We have created a number of Vodka Luges for her and the MS society over the years. We LOVE working with her. This year Lizzie called and asked for another Luge for their upcoming Ball.
She asked if we had any suggestions or ideas for this years Annual Ball. We duly inundated her with various options and ideas. Not being phased (she is not one to be phased) she took all the suggestions on board, went away and came back with a title - Kiss Goodbye to MS. What could we do with that?
Kiss Goodbye to MS
With the word Kiss in the title, the obvious candidate for a Vodka Luge was a pair of Lips. We scoured our own image photo bank and found an image that might fit the bill. Sending it to Lizzie - she loved it. The next thing was to carve it.
We actually carved this one twice. We first carved it in a Portrait format, that is 1m tall by 1/2m wide. We thought this would be tall, impressive and very commanding for guests at the Ball to use. However, being totally honest once we had completed it, it just didn't look right. Unknown to Lizzie we carved it again. This time in a Landscape format. This format fitted perfectly the idea, the brief and looked - just right.
There are always many things (like in all companies) that clients simply do not see or even realize that go on behind the scenes. Conversations, e-mails and so forth take place between us and a client (the visual communication side of things), but they never see the real nitty-gritty, the discussions (and even heated debates) on how the final sculpture should look. An idea (from us or the client) will always start in the workshop with a meeting, discussion and (usually) lots of pen-to-paper drawings. We are not graphic designers, but our scribblings always translate into a design that works.
Lizzie's Vodka Luge emerged; a pair of lips above snow-fill ice plinth with the text - "Goodbye to MS" carved into the ice. A single channel Vodka Luge. Placed opposite the Bar and at the top of the stairs to the function - no one could miss it - or not fail to use it.
