20 Stories Ice Sculpture from Passion for Ice

20 Stories Manchester logo is pure CNC carving at its best.

For the launch of the exquisite and elegant Restaurant 20 Stories (No 1 Spinningfields, Manchester) they approached us to create their simple but creative Logo in ice. A '20' above the word 'Stories' and then beneath that a simple straight line dead centre of the word Stories.

The launch was a big affair with lots of glitz and glamour.

20 Stories CNC Carved

We plotted their logo into our CNC computer. For what they wanted, one ice block was not enough.  We thus carved the 20 Stories design out of two ice blocks. The base ice block alone was around 20-stone in weight.  On arrival at the 20 Stories Restaurant, their Marketing Manager asked for the Ice Sculpture to be placed on a table by the entrance to the terrace.  The sheer physical size and enormous weight of the sculpture dictated this was not the right place and setting.

Using our flair for theatre and drama, we suggested placing the 20 Stories Ice Sculpture on the terrace floor (in a drain tray). Visually we wanted everyone to see it as they not only walked in to the Restaurant, but also those wanting to sit and eat on the Terrace area could see it. This location worked-out brilliantly - a real show-stopper of a piece. The right piece in the right setting

Most four-legged tables can take the weight on an ice sculpture. Finished or carved sculptures tend to be around the 11-14 -stone range when using a single ice block.  When bigger pieces are commissioned, that is, 1 1/2 and more ice blocks, weight is certainly a big factor in where to place and how to display.  Ice can be incredibly heavy.

The background - what is behind the sculpture is as important as the sculpture.  In the right setting, with appropriate lighting a wonderful ambience can be achieved. An Ice Sculpture is very different and unusual.  Designing, creating and carving can take weeks to complete. Placing it in the right spot and with the right lighting (in our opinion) is vital and not a last minute after-thought or on-the-day; 'where shall we put the ice sculpture?'

We can help you achieve your goal.
